Wedding Invitations

It’s that time of the year when brides are choosing wedding invitations and proofing them. The invitations are so important, they can really dictate the tone and style of your wedding.

We all love to receive a wedding invitation, as it is such a special occasion and your guests will feel delighted that you have asked them to share in your special day. And with so much electronic mail in our technical world, it’s just so nice to receive a really pretty envelope in the post.

Everybody loves to display the wedding invitation, so it’s important that it is good quality.  I personally love the card to weigh at least 250g. This means your invitation stands up proud on a mantlepiece. When you choose a good heavy card, it does not bend in the middle when standing up. It’s like a little solider . This invite sends out the message “strong like our love”. I know, romantic……but I really can’t stress enough, the importance of the invitation card.

Invites are very personal to each couple and it is the first of the wedding “things” to choose together. If you like ribbons, feathers and crystals or folders for destination weddings, there is a fantastic selection available in Ireland.

I love Letterpress printing. This is the way printing was done before we all went digital. Each letter is embossed onto the card and it really looks and feels fantastic. This is where just plain printing really comes into its’ own, it’s so classical and elegant. If you look back in history, the invites for royal weddings were printed like this.

Check out www.farrellandchase.com . Pamela has a beautiful range to choose from and will design bespoke ‘save the date’ cards, invites, place names, anything you want. They all come with beautiful coloured envelopes, which are 100% cotton, to match your chosen colours, or just plain classical ivory, vellum and white.

Having worked in the paper industry, I really feel your invite is so important, so choose carefully as this should reflect your personal style as a couple. And always remember to have an RSVP , as people will forget otherwise, and you don’t want to be calling up guests, asking them if they are attending the wedding.

My other suggested website to check out is www.prettyasapicture.ie.  Ailbhe will help you with choosing from their beautiful range of  Letterpress printing invitations, and you can have your envelopes printed with your address. They have a special offer on at the moment, but if you mention my name, you will get a discount.

Alternatively, you may choose to design your own invitations and make them yourself. Check out www.caracraftsuplies.ie. for a great selection of materials to do just that.

So whatever your choice for invites, remember to choose carefully and emulate your own style. Enjoy!
